A conductivity measurement reveals how well a metal conducts electrical currents and most importantly for the aerospace industry, reveals changes in the metal’s composition, microstructure and mechanical properties. This enables the user to draw conclusions about the hardness and strength of heat-treated materials and to inspect for heat damage, material fatigue and cracks. For this, the phase-sensitive eddy current method is used, which is approved for the measurement of conductivity according to DIN EN 2004-1 and ASTM E 1004.

Fischer’s most current conductivity instrument – the Sigmascope SMP350 – has been developed to further meet the stringent demands of the aerospace industry and is Boeing, Airbus and Bombardier approved.
